ISOLO LCDA KICKS OFF WEEK -LONG COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH MISSION ACROSS PHCs
Isolo, Lagos
Thurs., 26th June ‘25
The Chairperson of Isolo LCDA, Mrs. Olajumoke Olasoju, once again demonstrated her dedication to her husband’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of residents as she officially flagged off the Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health + Nutrition Week.
The event, held at Ilasamaja Primary Healthcare Centre, on Wednesday targets pregnant women, newborns, women of childbearing age, adolescents, and children under five years across the council area.
In her remarks, the Chairperson expressed her delight at domesticating the initiative—championed by the Lagos State First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu—in Isolo LCDA. She emphasized the importance of prioritizing the health of women and children, stating, “A healthy mother means a stronger family, just as a nourished child means a brighter tomorrow.”
She noted that the week-long programme, which commenced on Monday, June 23 and runs through Friday, June 27, will take place across the seven primary healthcare centres in the LCDA. The initiative will feature antenatal services, immunization for children, Vitamin A supplementation, deworming, growth monitoring, nutritional counseling, family planning, birth certificate registration, adolescent health education, and free comprehensive health screenings.
She urged attendees not only to maximize the opportunity but also to spread the word in their communities.
“This Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health and Nutrition Week reminds us that when we invest in the health of women and children, we invest in the future of our community. A healthy mother means a stronger family. A nourished child means a brighter tomorrow. And when our adolescents are informed and empowered, our future is secure,” she said.
Adhering to hygienic protocols, the Chairperson personally administered oral polio vaccines to two infants and encouraged nursing and expectant mothers to ensure their children are immunized against the deadly virus.
Earlier, the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Anne Okonma, highlighted the importance of the programme and urged participants to take full advantage of the healthcare services being provided, reinforcing the council authority and state government’s commitment to their well-being.
Also speaking, Health Educator Ms. Testimony Adeyeye walked attendees through the range of free services available during the week-long programme, noting that all primary health centres will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with qualified medical personnel on ground to attend to them.
Just before the curtain was drawn on the event, the Chairperson, alongside health officials, dignitaries and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Councillorship Candidate for Ilasamaja Ward, Hon. Nofisat Shobayo-Lawal visited the labour ward to present healthcare packages to new mothers. Similar gestures were extended to nursing mothers and other beneficiaries present at the event.
Notable dignitaries in attendance included Ward Health Committee Chairmen from Ilasamaja, Ajao, Alagbeji, Ishaga/Itire-Akari, and Apennine Wards; Alhaji Rahmoni Semiudeen, Hon. Adesegun Olatunde, Mrs. Olayemi Aloba, Mr. Rasheed Okunade, and Mr. Leo Chioma, respectively among others.
