The Chairperson of Isolo LCDA, Mrs. Olajumoke Olasoju, has charged winners of the preliminary stage of the 2025 Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition in the council area to aim for gold at the state level, urging them to make themselves and, by extension, the council proud.
She gave the charge in her remarks at the Council Area level of the competition held on the council premises on Tuesday.
The qualifying stage featured pupils and students from all public primary and secondary schools in the council competing for slots to fly the council area\'s flag at the state level.
Kicking off with the primary category, participants from each of the 14 public primary schools in the council area competed among themselves. Oloyede Bilal from St. Paul’s Anglican Primary School emerged the winner following his impressive display of spelling mastery, courage, and composure. Mustapha Abdullahi from Faronbi Primary School and Glory Aku from Olokun Primary School came second and third respectively, in the primary school category.
In the secondary school category, Selimot Ismaila from Ajao Estate Senior Grammar School stole the show with her correct and fluent spelling of the winning word ‘Soigné’, leaving the duo from Isolo Comprehensive Senior High School, Abiodun Oreofe and Adeniran Adesope, in second and third place, respectively.
In her remarks, Mrs. Olasoju reminded the winners that they had only emerged champions at the preliminary stage, urging them to prepare harder and better for the next round.
While presenting them with their respective prizes, the Chairperson encouraged them to hone their spelling skills and uphold the sportsmanship spirit they had displayed. She urged them not to settle for less but repeat Isolo’s victory of having won the grand prize of the ‘One-Day Governor’ before adding that they have all it takes.
She stressed that the council authority, under her husband’s qualitative leadership, would continue prioritizing education to give the youngsters a proper foundation in life.
Speaking on behalf of the teachers, Mr. Kehinde Ajeigbe from Ajao Estate Senior Grammar School gave an assurance of adequate preparation on their part for the council’s representatives’ anticipated success at the state level.
Other notable dignitaries in attendance included councillors led by the Deputy Leader, Chief (Hon.) Idris Babatunde Amusa, Princess Balikis Agbabiaka-Odunsi, and Mrs. Ganiyat Badmus, among others
